Our History

Founded in 2002, United Outstanding Physicians (UOP) is a peer-managed physician organization focused on improving health care and reducing costs.

The organization was originally formed as a physician hospital organization, however, over time it became obvious that this framework was not best suited to reduce or even control health care costs. In 2006, UOP became a physician-only organization and since that time, UOP has promoted patient and physician choice for hospital services.  UOP has contracted with several hospitals to improve quality and utilization costs, and believes that competition among hospitals will lead to enhanced patient safety, increased quality of care, and favorable cost outcomes.  Since most health care expenditures are associated with hospital services, promoting competition among hospitals will likely achieve significant savings for patients and health care purchasers.

Today, UOP is comprised of nearly 1,000 independent private practice physicians in nearly every physician specialty, and has been recognized as one of the top performing physician organizations in Southeast Michigan.  UOP physicians enjoy admitting privileges at Southeast Michigan’s largest hospitals such as: Henry Ford Hospital (main), Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, St. Mary Mercy Livonia, Garden City Hospital, and the Detroit Medical Center.
